Park Reservations
Reserving a park shelter is free at the City of Douglas. However, if you are having liquor at your event, or the event qualifies as a "Special Event", there are required fees and additional applications.
Liquor
The City requires an open container permit, catering permit, or malt beverage permit at least one week in advance in order to allow time for processing. No liquor can be consumed, sold, or distributed on public property without a permit. The permit fee is $25.00 per day and require a $100.00 refundable deposit to be submitted at the time application is made.
Special Events
For Special Events, the City requires the application to be submitted at least two (2) weeks prior to your event. The application fee is $25.00 and a deposit may be required depending upon the event. Multiple days can be included in one application. Examples of Special Events are First Thursdays, Jackalope Days, Converse County Bank's Hot Night in the Park, Farmer's Markets, and others. However, smaller events may require a Special Event permit as well. Please contact City Hall at 307-358-3462 and our staff can help you determine if a permit is necessary.
The City also has a Waiver of Special Event application, which is free, and this is often a good place to start to see if you are required to complete the full application.
More Information
Sharing the grounds with the Douglas Railroad Interpretive Center and the Visitor's Center, Locomotive Park/Railroad Interpretive Center is located at the intersection of Brownfield Road and West Yellowstone Highway. Features include shaded picnic tables and train cars on display.
The D.R.I.C. museum is home to a variety of train cars, including a locomotive, dining car, caboose and motor car for visitors to explore, inside and out. The Douglas Visitor's Center is housed in what was once the passenger depot. The building dates back to 1886 and retired from service in 1970. With a renovation from the City of Douglas, the building re-opened in 1995 in its current state.
Annual Events
FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT: Every Monday in July from 9:00 to 11:00 p.m. at the Interpretive Center. Open to the public. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy popcorn and a movie outdoors.
RAILROAD DAYS: Railroad Days are held each year in June to kick of the annual Jackalope Days celebration in Douglas.
How to Get There
Take I-25 Exit 140 onto Yellowstone Highway. Go east past McDonald's and across the North Platte River. As the highway bends, look for the Interpretive Center on the right, at the intersection of Yellowstone and Brownfield Road.
