Joel was born and raised in California. Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the Army as a Military Policeman. Joel served just over 20 years in the Army and fell in love with Wyoming while stationed in Casper on Recruiting duty. Upon retirement from the Army, he and his family moved back to Wyoming. Joel served with the Converse County Sheriff's Office for 10 years and was the Undersheriff. He is now fully retired and enjoys traveling and photography. Joel and his wife Michelle were married in 1985, they have 2 children, 4 grandchildren and are anxiously awaiting the arrival of their 5th grandchild in July of 2025.
