The Douglas Police Department's hiring process consists of a series of phases for employment. A candidate for the Douglas Police Department can expect four phases before becoming an officer.
Phase 1 - Interview

- Oral Interview with peers
- Oral Interview with the Command Staff
Phase 2 - Background
- Background Investigations
Conditional Offer of Employment
Phase 3 - Screening
- Psychological Screening
- Polygraph
- Medical Exam
Phase 4 – 1 year Probationary Period
- Attend a 2 week Douglas Police Department Pre-Academy
- Graduate the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy Peace Officer Basic Training
- 14 weeks of paid training with a Field Training Officer
