Hiring Process: What to expect?

The Douglas Police Department's hiring process consists of a series of phases for employment. A candidate for the Douglas Police Department can expect four phases before becoming an officer.

Phase 1 - Interview

  • Physical Fitness Assessment
  • Oral Interview with peers 
  • Oral Interview with the Command Staff

Phase 2 - Background

  • Background Investigations

Conditional Offer of Employment

Phase 3 - Screening

  • Psychological Screening
  • Polygraph
  • Medical Exam

Phase 4 – 1 year Probationary Period

  • Attend a 2 week Douglas Police Department Pre-Academy
  • Graduate the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy Peace Officer Basic Training
  • 14 weeks of paid training with a Field Training Officer
