1. What can I expect for base pay?

Wages range from $56,030.71 to $93,870.99 depending on work experience (Detention or other law enforcement experience), POST certification and military experience.

2. What are some benefits I can expect upon employment?

  • Health Insurance

    • 100% of premiums paid for by the city.

  • Dental insurance

  • College Tuition Reimbursement

  • Vacation leave - 12 days per year accrual; additional accrual after four years of service.

  • Sick leave - 12 days per year accrual

  • Employees are eligible for a 457 Deferred Compensation Plan through the city and entry into the Wyoming Retirement Pension Plan

3. Do I have to pay for my own equipment?

Officers are issued all uniform and duty gear, with exception of boots, while employed with the Douglas Police Department.  

4. What can I expect for training from the department?

The Douglas Police Department will pay for you to attend the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy at no expense to you. While employed with the Douglas Police Department you will have paid on the job training while at the academy as well as during your initial field training experience. 

5. Do I need a degree in Criminal Justice or Public Administration to join?

You are not required to have a college degree to apply to the Douglas Police Department but it is recommended for employment. If you are looking to further your education, the Douglas Police Department offers tuition reimbursement while employed with the organization.
